  • Social Media: Marketing a life style. Not a Brand.

    image

Social Media is more focused around a life style, anyone’s life style. It’s not about advertising what your product is or your service. Some may disagree with this, but it is in fact this way. The Brand Awareness actually comes through this form of life style marketing. A great example would be the Coca-Cola company or the Julia Balfour creative agency.

Both of these companies show great examples on their facebook company profiles at how important it is to connect to a user through the social media spectrum. Let’s take a closer look here. The Coca-Cola company and Julia Balfour both display events in life that means something to them or to their users. It shows that they as a company care enough about their customers. This engages users and makes users want to strike up discussions with these companies. Not only that, it will make users share with other users about these companies. Whether that be through word of mouth, or just by clicking share or retweet here in the world of social media.

The big mistake that most companies fall into is the “Only brand marketing” pit of despair. This can seriously damage a company’s reputation, or worse, gain nothing from it at all. If a company solely focuses on marketing only their brand on a social media platform, they will surely fail. By that I mean not including and accepting the life style reality concept that is on the front line. By posting “Hey! Check out what we just wrote!” this really means nothing to a user, unless of course you’re an already established brand. If you’re already established, then you may gain the opposite effect and pique the users interest, but even then you may have just succeeded in raising your bounce rate.

My overall goal of this article is to make those aware of this major mistake that are unaware. This is a huge and crucial part of Digital and Social Media marketing.
